Background

The idea of initiating a scholarship fund for the benefit of underprivileged children in the area was conceived in the righteous mind of Venerable Kerawalapitiye Subodha Thero of Chuang Yen Monastery 2020 Route 301, Carmel, NY 10512, USA.

The idea had been implemented under the proper guidance and monitoring of Venerable Kerawalapitiye Sumedha Thero, the Chief Incumbent of the Mulaghandhi Kuti Piriwen Maha Vihara Welisara, Ragama Sri Lanka. Venerable Dr. Dhammadipa Thero, Former Chief Incumbent of Chuang Yen Monastery 2020 Route 301, Carmel, NY 10512, USA, endowed unstinted cooperation and patronage for the fulfillment of this commendable endeavor. The fund was named as ‘Dhammadipa Scholarship Fund’ in honor of Venerable Dr Dhammadipa Thero and was initiated in the year 2013 with the intention of providing essential financial and material assistance in terms of education for the under privileged children in one area of the country in which most of the families are economically handicapped owing to poor level of education which is directly related to their negative mentality. In the area, most of the inhabitants are shanty dwellers. The primary objective of the Dhammadipa Scholarship Fund, in line with our mission, is shaping the future of the children concerned by showing them all avenues at their disposal for better education.

We dream a day in the future that all children in the area have the opportunity to obtain an excellent education that in return paves the way to achieve his/her fullest potential to serve the mankind. With the aim to fulfill our wishes, we established a fund based on the Mulaghandha kuti Vihara Welisara, Ragama, Sri Lanka. After few months of operation of the fund, Bodhi Education Foundation with the leadership of Mr. Garry helped us in many ways for making our endeavor a success.
